Estonian Deco

Throwback– project from design school inspired by a high school trip to Estonia. The cold winter landscape is sparse and rugged against Baltic blue-grays. Warm gold balsa woods enliven Jean Michel Frank deco-inspired pieces by Hermes for a light and minimal soviet/scandinavian feel.

THE PLAN consisted of 3 interior walls and one outer wall of 2 sizeable, arched,

fully-paned windows.

Existing wet walls were accessed on either side for kitchen/laundry and bath. Organization was created through a series of built-ins focused on the central office area, as well as the space beneath the windows.

An atrium-reminiscent light was installed in the foyer, along with an aquarium and canopy of arches to accentuate height and draw light into an otherwise dark and removed space. The result is the illusion of an open floor plan that allows for more extensive utilization of negative space.
